FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to some of the questions we are asked.:
  • I hear you are no longer renting. Is that true?
Yes, that is true. We'd like to thank all of our past guests for staying with us. We are currently looking for other rental properties for the 2012 season, but Summer Dream (a.k.a. "little blue house") is no longer a rental.
  • Are my dates available?
We keep our calendar up to date. If the dates you want to stay are red, then they're not available. Otherwise, please submit a reservation request.
  • How far is your house from the beach?
Our house is approx. two blocks from the beach. For most, it's a five minute or less walk, even with little kids, the wagon, the coolers, chairs, towels, sunblock, beach balls, etc.
  • What else is there to do on Galveston Island?
Besides enjoying the sand, surf, sun, and waves, some of the more popular attractions are: Schlitterbahn water park; Moody Gardens acquarium, rain forest, IMAX 3-D, and more; Palm Beach at Moody Gardens (a water park designed for smaller children); Downtown including The Strand shopping district, theaters, restaurants, bars, etc.; Lonestar Flight Museum with Warbird Rides, and so much more!
  • Where can I rent a jetski/waverunner?
You can rent personal water craft several places directly on the beach east of 61st. Or if you'd rather not mess with the crowds and the drive, call Kelly or Nick at 888-402-3332 or visit their website. They rent on the West End and frequently are located just west of Pirates Beach. Tell them we referred you to get special pricing!
  • How can I get a bounce house or water slide like the ones in your pictures?
Great idea! Just call Kristen at 409-741-5463 or visit The Party Connection online to make your reservation. Tell them we referred you to get special pricing!
  • What is the price for ____ nites?
Check out our rates page for current rates.
  • How much is the cleaning fee? What is the tax rate?
All fees and taxes are included in the rental rates. There are no additional fees.
  • How much is the damage deposit?
We no longer require a damage deposit. All rentals now require Property Damage Protection insurance, paid at time of rental. To read more information about this insurance policy and what it covers, please click here.
  • Is there an application fee?
Yes, the application fee is $100, and it is included in the rental rates posted online. It is not an additional charge.
  • Where is the house located?
Check out our directions page for driving directions and map link.
  • Where can I get fresh seafood?
Where to begin ... if you're looking to pick up some shrimp or crabs for your own backyard boil, Alex's Seafood Market is right across from the Pirates Beach entrance. Their summer hours are daily 10-6 or you can call 409-737-2212. If you're looking to go out to eat, we love Joe's Crabshack which is right on the Seawall mid-town. Our second favorite is Fish Tales which is further down the Seawall, across from the soon-to-be-renovated Flagship Hotel. Also in mid-town are Galveston icon's Gaidos and the less-formal Casey's next door. Down on the wharf, you can check out Fisherman's Wharf (my sister's favorite) and Willie G's.
  • Are there any other places to eat you would recommend (not seafood)?
Our favorite non-seafood restaurant on the island is Rainforest Cafe. Kids love it, the food is always tasty, and they have a volcano light/sound show several times each evening. McAllister's Deli is just west of 61st street in front of Wal-Mart, Tortuga Cantina is just east of 61st street a few doors down from Kroger, and the Olympia Grill Greek Restaurant is also located in midtown along the Seawall. Towards the east end of the island is Saltgrass Steakhouse, Capital Q BBQ and Chili's bar and grill. Last, but not least, if you're looking for a nite out on the town, be sure to check out Rudy and Paco's.
  • Do you have a ____ in the kitchen?
Take a look at our amenities page. We don't list everything (eg. "forks" is not listed, but we do provide forks), but it will give you an idea of what to expect. If there's something you're not sure about, please send us an email.
  • What happens if there is a hurricane?
The wind blows ... a lot ... and it rains ... a lot ... and the waves swell up and usually cause a bit of flooding. You probably don't want to be down here when this happens. :-)
  • What happens if there is a hurricane during my rental time? Do I get my money back?
Most rental companies on Galveston Island do not refund your money since they bundle travel insurance with your reservation. We've taken a slightly different approach and will happily refund the unused portion of your stay. You can read the full paragraph titled "Mandatory Hurricane Evacuation" on our terms and conditions page. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email for further clarification.
  • What is minimum age to rent?
Texas law stipulates that one must be 18 years of age in order to enter into a legally binding contract. That said, the people who most often ask this question tend to be under the age of 25. Many of the rental companies on Galveston Island do not rent to persons under 25. Our policy is that we rent to responsible adults 21 years of age and older.
  • Is it OK for my mom/brother/great-aunt/pet-frog to make the reservation for me and my friends? We really, really, really want to rent your house for prom/graduation weekend!!!
    No.
  • Can I make the reservation in my name have someone else pay?
No. The person who makes the reservation and submits payment is the person responsible for the property. The Property Damage Protection Policy from CSA will be issued in that person's name. Our terms and conditions require that same person making the reservation to be physically present on the property during the time of the rental.
  • What is your smoking policy?
Smoking is not permitted in the house or on the covered porch (fire safety). You can smoke downstairs, but please don't smoke underneath the house (fire safety, again). If you're talking about smoking some ribs or brisket, same rules apply -- please don't smoke under the house; move the grill to the driveway.
  • How do I add the "holiday surcharge" to my reservation?
Please visit this page for instructions.
